Pamela Findleton Artist Statement:
Maynard Dixon said the desert had enormous diversity. On my journey to the Southwest I found this to be true. Sculpted canyons, dusty colored slick rock presented itself as a sandstone canvas to my eye.I felt an instant connection to all the painters that walked along the same dusty paths to spiritually connect with this living desert. The desert is a contradiction, an unimaginable stillness in time, yet the landscape is powerfully moving. The landscape speaks to the soul; canyons moan, the river embraces and the sun's rays heal. No two people have the same fingerprint or see the world in the same way. As a painter I have the freedom to lay down color on the walls of paper and canvas as my petroglyphs. This exhibit has given me the opportunity to use all mediums to create the feeling and visions I experienced on this adventure. As a painter I use tools and color available to me to tell my story. To record events, dreams and to share the beautiful created landscape. All of us feel the need to leave our mark, a legacy of our existence. It is a desire to communicate factually and spiritually with those who are and will be. I hope I can share the story, to leave my mark, my personal petroglyphs.
